February 27, 2009 changed the Garcia Family household forever when the devastating ultrasound results showed a tumor had been discovered on Samantha’s left side kidney and a second one had started to develop in her lungs. The tumor was diagnosed as a Wilms Tumor, a type of children’s cancer.
Treatment began immediately to shrink the tumor prior to surgery. The Kidney tumor was removed successfully as was the tumor in her lungs.
Once Samantha’s stage of hair loss began due to chemotherapy medicine and radiation, mom did not settle for grandma’s knitted hats. Instead she searched for soft comfortable hats and adorned them with flowers and bows herself.
We are happy to share that Samantha is in remission and learning spanish in her second grade dual immersion class. Her hair has grown back to it's original curly texture. |
